This weekend, the Indian Museum will host a unique exhibition and seminar to celebrate World Heritage Week. "From Fields to Folk" promises to tap into the collaborative spirit of rural museums, ensuring the recognition and protection of our treasured rural heritage. Attendees can look forward to a vibrant showcase of traditional arts, crafts, music, and dance alongside stunning photographic displays. There will also be dynamic panel discussions featuring esteemed artists, museologists, and academics from various museums in West Bengal and the Sheikh Noor-ud din Noorani Museum of Heritage at the University of Jammu. Best of all, the exhibition and seminar are free and open to everyone, although standard entry fees for the Indian Museum do apply.

This performance delves into spirituality, social justice, and inner truth themes. Virmani’s unique style combines singing Kabir’s verses in their original languages, playing the traditional instrument called the tambura, and sharing stories about Kabir’s life and philosophy. She actively engages the audience in reflective discussions, highlighting the relevance of Kabir’s teachings today. Shabnam Virmani initiated The Kabir Project in 2002, dedicating over two decades to exploring the philosophies of Kabir, Shah Latif, and other mystic poets. She has deeply engaged with their oral folk traditions, working to revive and make Kabir’s timeless messages accessible and relevant to contemporary audiences.
