Shreya Cheema
Our Lady Of Lourdes Church
Although Trichy is famed for its beautiful temples, this church, which was completed in 1903, is situated near Rock Fort and boasts equally stunning architecture, featuring Gallo-Catholic design mixed with elements borrowed from neo-Gothic architectural style.
Rock Fort
The 257-foot tall fort is unique as it is believed to be built completely using rocks that are over a billion years old. The complex, housing three temples inside and 344 steps that lead to it, was constructed by the Nayaks between the 14th and 15th centuries.
Thiruvellarai
Located 25km from Trichy, Thiruvellarai is situated on a 50 ft high hill of white rock. The fort features inscriptions from the 18th century and a Swastika-shaped tank from the 9th century. Its architecture also borrows heavily from Hindu mythologies.
Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple
This temple, located on an island a few km off Trichy, is a prime attraction devoted to Lord Vishnu. Built in Dravidian architectural style, the temple complex features seven concentric circles and 17 major gopuramas, 50 shrines, a hall with a thousand pillars, and nine sacred water pools. The main gopuram extends to 13 storeys.
Jambukeshwat Temple
Built by the Cholas in the 2nd century, this temple, also known as Thiruvanaikoil Temple, is one of the five major Shiva temples in Tamil Nadu that represent Mahabhuta or the five elements. This one represents water, as hidden below the sanctum is an underground stream.
Kallanai Dam
If you want to feel the breeze, there's no better spot than Kallanai Dam, which dates back to the times of the Chola Dynasty. Built in 150 CE by King Karikalan, the damn is considered to be the fourth-oldest water-diversion structure in India.
Erumbeeswarar Temple
Erumbeeswarar Temple in Tamil Nadu is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. It sits atop a 60-foot hill and features shrines and prakarams at the top and a hall and tank at the foothills.
