Krishna Janmashtami, celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, will be observed on August 26, 2024. Devotees honour Krishna’s birth through prayers and community events.
Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, is the most sacred place to celebrate Janmashtami. The Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple is the focal point of the celebrations, where devotees participate in various rituals.
Vrindavan is an important Janmashtami destination associated with Krishna's childhood. The town has temples like the Banke Bihari Temple and ISKCON Temple. Celebrations involve reenactments of Krishna's playful activities, bhajans, etc.
Dwarka, the kingdom of Lord Krishna, is a significant destination for Janmashtami celebrations. The Dwarkadhish Temple hosts rituals such as ceremonial bathing the Krishna idol, followed by devotional songs throughout the night.
Mumbai's Krishna Janmashtami is famous for the Dahi Handi celebrations, where teams of men form human pyramids to break a pot filled with curd, reenacting Lord Krishna's childhood pastime of stealing butter.
Nathdwara is home to the Shrinathji Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna. The temple celebrates Janmashtami with great devotion. The highlight is the Swarna Rath Yatra, where the deity is taken out in a golden chariot.

The Guruvayur Temple celebrates Janmashtami with traditional rituals, including Ashtamirohini, a special puja performed at midnight. Devotees offer prayers and seek blessings from Lord Krishna in this ancient temple.
