Himachal Pradesh has always been a favourite with tourists looking for scenic hilly getaways. Now visiting the state is even easier with additional connectivity for tourists. Officials announced that starting Friday, the Himachal Pradesh government will introduce new flight routes to enhance tourism within the state. The new routes will connect Chandigarh, Kullu, and Dharamsala.

The government is currently negotiating with airlines and stakeholders to launch these flights. A direct connection between Kullu and Dharamsala is anticipated to greatly benefit the tourism sector, addressing a long-standing request from visitors, according to a statement.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu highlighted the government's dedication to attracting high-end tourists. "Enhancing air connectivity is key to reaching our tourism objectives. Reducing travel time and costs for tourists is essential," he said.

"Himachal Pradesh boasts stunning landscapes and has significant tourism potential. Developing tourism infrastructure systematically will boost visitor numbers and support the local economy," the CM added.

Currently, four flight routes operate daily: Delhi-Shimla-Delhi and Shimla-Dharamsala-Shimla, with Amritsar-Shimla-Amritsar and Amritsar-Kullu-Amritsar routes running three times a week.

Himachal Pradesh government is also working on new heliports to improve air connectivity

In addition to expanding flight routes, the Himachal Pradesh government is also working on new heliports to improve air connectivity. A sum of INR 13 crore has been allocated for heliports in Rakkar and Palampur (Kangra district), Reckong Peo (Kinnaur district), and Chamba district.

"The construction of heliports is advantageous due to Himachal Pradesh's hilly terrain," the CM explained. "These heliports will not only save travel time for tourists but also aid local residents in emergencies."

Sukhu emphasised that attracting more tourists would bring greater benefits to the state's residents. The government is committed to establishing these heliports strategically, ensuring connectivity to each district headquarters.

Additionally, the state government has designated Kangra district as Himachal Pradesh's tourism capital and is upgrading the tourism infrastructure there.
