Vietnam, with its breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and vibrant history, is a country that has long captivated the hearts of Indian travellers. Here's some good news for them. Vietnam is considering granting short-term visa waivers to Indians in order to boost tourism.

According to the Vietnamese news agency VnExpress, Nguyen Van Hung, Vietnam's Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, has called for waivers for major markets such as China and India to help drive tourism recovery. This was announced on November 22 at a conference presided over by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Nguyen Van Hung also proposed waivers for visitors from wealthy countries such as Australia, Canada, the United States, and the remaining 20 EU members. Only citizens of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland are currently permitted to enter Vietnam without a visa. The period of visa-free stay is not the same for all countries, but it ranges from 14 to 90 days. Hung has also proposed expanding the visa exemption regime on several occasions to boost tourism, even as Southeast Asian countries compete to attract foreign visitors with favourable visa policies. In order to attract more tourists, the Vietnamese government has implemented other measures, such as granting e-visas for all countries for up to 90 days.

Recent Announcements

Thailand had recently announced the temporarily removal of visa requirements for travellers from India. Starting November 10, Indian citizens can visit the island nation for up to 30 days without a visa. This visa-free access is available from November 10, 2023, till May 10, 2024.
