Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate the new Rewa Airport in Madhya Pradesh on October 21, an official from the state government has confirmed. Located in the Vindhya region, the airport recently received its operating licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Key union and state ministers, including the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, are expected to attend the inauguration ceremony in Rewa.

The DGCA’s approval marks a significant step toward enhancing both economic growth and regional connectivity in Madhya Pradesh. With Rewa becaming the sixth operational airport in the state after Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior and Khajuraho, the government aims to improve infrastructure and economic potential in the underserved Vindhya region. Yadav emphasised that the development of Rewa Airport aligns with Modi’s vision of a “Developed India-Developed Madhya Pradesh,” positioning the airport as a key driver for regional development.

The airport will accommodate both passenger and cargo flights, which is expected to boost tourism, employment and trade in the region. Rewa is renowned for its cultural and historical landmarks, and the airport will make these attractions more accessible, potentially drawing more visitors and businesses to the area.

Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, a native of the Vindhya region, expressed his excitement, noting that the long-standing dream of air connectivity for the region's citizens was about to become a reality. He highlighted the transformative impact the airport will have on the economic, social and cultural landscape of the Vindhya region.

The airport has several modern facilities to ensure a comfortable and safe travel experience. The terminal is designed with well-equipped seating areas, clean restrooms and information desks for passenger assistance. Advanced security measures, including screening equipment and trained personnel, have been put in place to ensure the safety of travellers.

Furthermore, the airport’s runway can accommodate ATR 72 aircraft, making it ideal for regional flights and providing efficient air service to various destinations. Looking ahead, there are plans to expand the airport’s capacity to handle larger aircraft and more passengers, further enhancing its role in regional connectivity.
