In a significant incident at Nainital's well-known tourist spot, Tiffin Top—also called Dorothy's Seat—suffered significant damage as the structure collapsed due to a landslide triggered by heavy rains. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The collapse took place around 11 pm on August 6, sending shockwaves through the town as the loud sound of falling boulders echoed. According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Pramod Kumar, deep cracks had developed in the hill leading up to Tiffin Top, which eventually caused the iconic Dorothy's Seat to break apart. The heavy showers that night proved to be the final straw, causing the structure to give way.

Local tea shop owner Dinesh Suntha mentioned that his nephew, Ashutosh, who was sleeping inside the shop, alerted him to the landslide. He added that the fear of more rain and falling debris kept people away from the area.

Dorothy's Seat, perched at a height of 2,290 meters, was originally built by British Army officer Colonel Kellett in memory of his late wife, who enjoyed sitting at that spot to paint. She tragically passed away from septicemia while on a ship to England. The site, a gentle three-kilometre trek from Nainital, is cherished by locals and tourists for its panoramic views of the lake town and the Himalayas, especially on clear days.

It is also a favoured spot for picnickers, offering ample space to relax and enjoy the natural beauty. The combination of scenic vistas, rich history, and surroundings makes Dorothy's Seat a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Nainital.
