The Northeast region is getting a significant boost. According to reports, the number of weekly flights in cities like Guwahati is jumping from 63 to an impressive 106. These flights will connect Guwahati directly to eight major cities, including Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. All thanks to Air India Express, which is ramping up its flight services to the Northeast, making it easier to explore this vast region. This winter, the airline is also adding more flights to other Northeast cities like Imphal and Agartala, which means better connectivity for everyone, whether you're flying within India or from overseas.

If you're heading abroad or to other parts of India, Air India Express offers one-stop connections to 18 domestic and six international destinations.

Commenting on increased flight operations, Dr. Ankur Garg, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India Express, said, “As the largest operator in the Imphal-Guwahati sector with three daily flights, we are committed to enhancing connectivity in the Northeast. Besides, our direct flights to Kolkata and convenient one-stop connections to major cities across India contribute significantly to the region's economic growth and tourism.”

Big Changes In Imphal

Reports further suggest that Imphal is also seeing a considerable upgrade, with weekly flights doubling—from 14 to 34. The airline operates three daily flights between Imphal and Guwahati, making it the largest carrier on this route. You can fly directly to Kolkata or enjoy one-stop access to many other cities.

Agartala joined the Air India Express network recently and is now operating 21 weekly flights, up from 14 last winter. These connect Agartala directly to Guwahati and Kolkata, with convenient one-stop options to 11 other destinations.

This expansion means more affordable and frequent travel options for everyone. Guwahati is becoming a vital link between the Northeast and the rest of India, making visiting easier for domestic and international tourists. For local businesses, improved connectivity can open up new growth opportunities.

Under the Tata Group, Air India Express is reshaping its services to cater to budget-conscious travellers. By 2025, the airline plans to switch to an all-economy seating model and expand its fleet to over 90 aircraft. This move is part of its strategy to meet the rising demand for affordable flights from smaller cities.
