Madhya Pradesh is soon to witness the inauguration of two new airports in Guna and Shivpuri. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced the government's plans to construct these airports to bolster air connectivity in the region. Each airport will receive a government funding allocation of INR 45 crore.
These developments are poised to enhance accessibility to air travel and promote regional connectivity for the residents of Guna and Shivpuri cities.
Guna is earmarked for development under UDAN 5.2, with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) allocating a budget of INR 45 crore for its realization. AAI will oversee Aeronautical Information Services (AIS), Communications and Navigation Surveillance (CNS), and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services to ensure the smooth functioning of Guna Airport.
Likewise, Shivpuri Airport has been identified under UDAN 5.2, with plans to accommodate nine-seater aircraft upon commencement of operations. Spirit Air, a new startup airline, has already expressed interest in establishing connectivity from Shivpuri to Bhopal. AAI will expand its role as the O&M service provider for Shivpuri Airport in addition to its duties at Guna Airport. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has allocated INR 45 crore to develop Shivpuri Airport.
These airport projects are not just about enhancing regional connectivity in Madhya Pradesh; they are about opening up new avenues of economic growth. By directly benefiting residents of Bhopal, Shivpuri, Guna, and neighbouring areas, these initiatives are expected to stimulate tourism, trade, and commerce, thereby boosting economic activities in the region. This is a promising step towards better connectivity for Madhya Pradesh.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted that the construction of these twin airports was sanctioned under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government's regional connectivity scheme, Udan. He also emphasized the historical significance, mentioning that his late father and former Civil Aviation Minister, Madhavrao Scindia, had initiated Vayudoot services connecting Guna to Bhopal and Delhi.
Shivpuri and Guna in Madhya Pradesh boast rich cultural and historical heritage. Shivpuri, renowned for its regal past, features ancient forts, serene lakes, and verdant landscapes, attracting history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Guna, on the other hand, with its lively markets and bustling streets, embodies the essence of contemporary Madhya Pradesh. The proposed airports in these cities mark a significant advancement in regional connectivity, promising enhanced accessibility for residents and tourists alike.
