Kerala Tourism Dept. Invests INR 1.23 Crore To Promote Kireedam Bridge

OT Staff

If you are a fan of superstar Mohanlal, a revered actor who's shown his magic across many cult Malayalam classics, then you are in for good news. Located in Vellayani, the bridge that was shown in his iconic film "Kireedam" (released in 1989) is all set to get a facelift so that fans like yourselves can soak in the beautiful view and feel like you've stepped into Sethu Madhavan's character.

Noticing how popular the bridge is among the fans and its potential to become even more famous, the Kerala Tourism Department has decided to allocate a whopping INR 1.23 crore to elevate the look of the "Kireedam Bridge" and turn it into a tourist attraction. The plan to give the bridge an improved look will also be extended to the surrounding areas at Vellayani. Given that the bridge looks over swathing, bright green paddy fields, the location makes for a great spot to get some stunning pictures.

Bekal Fort

The tourism department and the State tourism minister, P.A. Mohamed Riyas, foresee this as a fruitful investment and a positive way to kickstart their initiative to promote cinema tourism in the region. Another famous spot in Kerala that is in the pipeline to be developed under this initiative includes Bekal Fort in Kasaragod, where Mani Ratnam shot the popular song "Uyire..." in the film "Bombay."

How To Reach Kireedam Bridge

The nearest railway station is the Thiruvananthapuram Central Station, about 10 km away. The nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport, about 15 km away. You can hire a private taxi or hail a public bus to reach Vellayani, where Kireedam Bridge is located.
