In a move to elevate its tourism appeal, Kerala, known for its breathtaking tourist spots, is now soaring to new heights by promoting heli-tourism in its picturesque hill areas. The state is also positioning itself as a top-notch wedding destination, accentuating responsible tourism and community welfare. The state's Tourism Director, P B Nooh, shared insights with news agency PTI on Jan 18, shedding light on the ambitious endeavours to boost tourist arrivals and foster sustainable tourism practices.

In recent years, Kerala has earned recognition as a prime responsible tourism destination. "We ensure that our travellers are responsible, and we also make sure that whatever money is spent, part of it goes to our local communities for their betterment," explained Nooh, underscoring Kerala's commitment to ethical tourism practices.

Heli-Tourism Takes Flight With 'Sky Escapes' Initiative

Tourism plays a pivotal role in Kerala's economy, with the state welcoming 159.69 lakh visitors from within the country between January and September 2023. To capitalise on this momentum further, Nooh unveiled the "Sky Escapes" initiative, a heli-tourism venture set to unfold in the hilly areas, providing tourists with a unique perspective of Kerala's natural beauty. Nooh affirmed that the state government is collaborating with private players to propel heli-tourism, aiming to make Kerala a sought-after destination for those seeking an elevated travel experience.

Destination Weddings Amid Scenic Splendour

Simultaneously, Kerala is keen on establishing itself as a premier wedding destination, leveraging its scenic landscapes and excellent air connectivity via international airports. Nooh emphasised the state's potential for destination weddings, underscoring the picturesque locales that can provide the perfect backdrop for couples seeking a unique and memorable celebration. This dual strategy of heli-tourism and destination weddings is expected to attract diverse tourists, from adventure enthusiasts to couples looking for an unforgettable wedding experience.

Empowering Cultural And Biodiversity Circuits

Beyond the skies and wedding bells, Kerala is focusing on empowering its cultural and biodiversity circuits to enhance the overall tourist experience. Nooh highlighted efforts to spotlight the literary and biodiversity circuits, with initiatives such as creating museums and attractions designed to captivate domestic travellers. These endeavours aim to diversify the tourism landscape, offering visitors a multifaceted experience that goes beyond conventional tourist attractions.

Adventure Awaits

As part of its commitment to providing diverse experiences, Kerala is reaching for the skies and embracing adventure tourism. The state hosts various events, including the upcoming International Paragliding Festival, International Surfing Festival, and Mountain-Terrain-Biking scheduled for March and April. These events cater to adrenaline seekers, positioning Kerala as a hub for adventure enthusiasts looking to explore the untamed terrains and waters the state offers.
