With the gradual onset of the monsoon season, the weather is changing across the country. Get ready for bouts of heavy rain in case you are planning a trip to some states along the west coast and in the northeast. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra in the west and Assam, Meghalaya, and Sikkim in the east will experience increased rainfall. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will also have rain on June 9 and 10.
Moving on to central India, Madhya Pradesh will have showers and severe winds in some areas. With the state experiencing sustained pre-monsoon activity, the monsoon is predicted to arrive around June 17 or June 18. Some cities in the state received intermittent showers this week, such as Dhar, Ratlam, and Chhindwara, while others, such as Neemuch, Damoh, and Chhatarpur, experienced milder temperatures. Heavy rain and high winds are expected in Chhindwara, Khandwa, Burhanpur, and Dindori on Monday.Orange alerts have been issued for the districts of Barwani, Khargone, Khandwa, Indore, Dewas, Dhar, Betul, Ujjain, Jhabua, and Alirajpur.
Meanwhile, Delhi, which has been experiencing high temperatures, will get some relief due to a western disturbance, with a partly cloudy sky and the possibility of dust storms or thunderstorms accompanied by light rain. Due to the heat, a yellow notice had been issued recently.
Residents in Mumbai can expect partly cloudy skies, light rain, and thunderstorms. The IMD anticipates maximum and minimum temperatures of around 35°C and 29°C, respectively. The monsoon season is expected to begin in the city between June 9 and 10, signalling a substantial shift in weather patterns.
Heavy rainfall is expected in Kerala on June 9, with the IMD issuing an orange signal for the districts of Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasargod yesterday. A yellow alert has also been issued for the districts of Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram.
Some areas in India will continue to experience extreme heat. Heatwaves are expected in various places, prompting the IMD to issue alerts. Northeast Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand may see isolated heatwaves from June 8 to 11, with Bihar anticipated to experience heatwaves on June 9 and 10. Similar circumstances are expected in Odisha, Punjab, and Haryana from June 9 to 11. From June 8 to 11, several parts of Uttar Pradesh will experience heatwaves or severe heatwaves.
