Indian football fans that are glued to their television screens during the UEFA Euro 2024 campaign are being encouraged by German authorities to experience the country’s cultural treasures and natural wonders for the duration of the tournament.
The German National Tourist Office (GNTO) India has launched the "Stay a Little Longer" campaign for Indian tourists to go beyond the football stadiums of Germany and experience the beauty of the land in all its glory. Alongside catching the games in the stadium or at the countless public viewing parties all over the nation, fans can also check out world-class museums, historical landmarks and scenic riverside views.
By extending their stay, tourists can discover Germany's 52 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, learn about its iconic industrial heritage, drink beer in cosy beer gardens, and dance the night away at one of their vibrant nightclubs. The GNTO India initiative seeks to enrich the visitor experience by going beyond the usual tourist hotspots, thus promoting a more meaningful engagement with all that Germany has to offer.
"Germany is more than just a football destination; it's a country with a rich history, vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes," said Romit Theophilus, director of marketing and sales at GNTO India. "We want to encourage Indian travellers to stay a little longer and explore our host cities, each with its unique charm and attractions."
Theophilus added "India and Germany share a passion for football, and we're excited to welcome Indian fans to Germany. Our “Stay a Little Longer” campaign offers exclusive travel ideas [and] cultural events making it an unforgettable experience for Indian travellers.”
The 10 host cities of Berlin, Dortmund, Munich, Cologne, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Leipzig, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen and Düsseldorf are buzzing with energy as the tournament gets underway. Visitors can experience local heritage like exploring the stunning castles of Bavaria and savouring the rich flavours of German cuisine.
For those looking to extend their stay, a wealth of activities awaits, from camping and hiking to mountain biking. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate Germany's commitment to sustainability, which is evident in its breathtaking landscapes and picturesque villages that also serve as eco-friendly tourism hubs.
