Flight departures at Delhi Airport's Terminal 1 (T1) have been suspended until 2 pm on June 28 after a section of the roof collapsed due to heavy rainfall, resulting in one fatality and five injuries.

The incident occurred around 5 am, and departures were halted immediately. Passengers inside the terminal were able to board their flights, but no new departures have taken place since around 7:30 am. Arrivals remain unaffected.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) confirmed that a portion of the canopy at the old departure forecourt collapsed due to the heavy rain. Emergency personnel are providing assistance and medical aid to those affected. As a precaution, all departures from T1 are temporarily suspended, and check-in counters are closed.

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu is monitoring the situation and has advised airlines to assist affected passengers. He confirmed that the injured have been taken to the hospital, and rescue operations are ongoing.

IndiGo and SpiceJet have issued statements acknowledging the impact on their operations. IndiGo noted flight cancellations and advised passengers to check flight statuses before heading to the airport. SpiceJet announced cancellations and stated that T1 would remain partially closed until further notice.

The airport operator is considering temporarily shifting operations from T1 to Terminals 2 and 3 to manage the situation.
