Passengers landing at Terminal 1 of Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi may soon forego the hassle of transporting their luggage to Terminal 3 for onward journeys.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) is seeking approval for baggage transfer between the two terminals from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). They aim to streamline the passenger experience and reduce logistical challenges.

Transferring your luggage from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 at New Delhi Airport could be a thing of the past

As it stands, passengers arriving at Terminal 1 must transport their checked-in baggage to Terminal 3 for connecting flights. Both terminals are slightly away from each other and passengers have to travel between them by road. Terminal 3 accommodates international flights while Terminals 1 and 2 cater to domestic flights.

For passengers transitioning from international to domestic flights, logistical arrangements such as customs clearance procedures are also being devised to enable seamless baggage transfer. A proof of concept is being developed to facilitate baggage drop-off at Terminal 1 after customs clearance.
