The Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, also known as Manaskhand, is set to become a top pick among tourists with the launch of the Manaskhand Express. This special tourist train is a joint effort between the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. "The train aims to promote the lesser-known destinations of Kumaon," stated the Uttarakhand Tourism Board.
Starting its first journey from Pune on April 22, 2024, the Manaskhand Express carried 280 enthusiastic tourists. They will arrive at the Tanakpur Railway Station in Uttarakhand on April 24, 2024.
According to the tourism board, the trip is a 10-night/11-day itinerary that covers various locations, including Nainital, Bhimtal, Almora, Chaukori, Purnagiri Temple, Haat Kalika Temple, Katarmal, Kainchi Dham, Chitai Golu Devta, Jageshwar, Shardha Ghat, Patal Bhuvneshwar Temple, Nanakmatta Gurudwara, and Champawat, among others.
Travelling in 3AC train compartments, each coupe accommodates only four persons to ensure maximum tourist comfort. The train's exterior showcases Uttarakhand's rich natural, cultural, architectural, and spiritual heritage. Various coaches depict the state's various aspects, from its cuisine to folk festivals, traditional attire, and significant temples.
The train has an air-conditioned pantry car serving a variety of dishes, including Uttarakhandi cuisine, throughout the journey. Upon reaching Tanakpur, tourists will be transported to various destinations where they will stay in hotels or homestays and explore the scheduled places of interest with overnight halts at Tanakpur, Champawat/Lohaghat, Chaukori, Almora, and Bhimtal.
Due to the overwhelming response, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board plans to operate more such trips. The next trip from Pune is scheduled for May 22, 2024, with bookings already open on the website.
