OT Staff

Tamil Nadu is gearing up to open a massive 223-acre eco-park near Kovalam Beach called Nandavanam Heritage Park. Set to be a prime attraction on the scenic East Coast Road (ECR), this eco-park aims to become a top spot for culture, nature, and family-friendly activities, combining Tamil heritage with recreational offerings. Let’s dive into what makes this upcoming park an interesting addition to Tamil Nadu’s tourism landscape.

A Cultural Hub

With a sprawling 223 acres, Nandavanam Heritage Park will soon be a significant cultural and recreational destination in Tamil Nadu. Positioned near Kovalam Beach, this eco-park will offer visitors an immersive experience in Tamil Nadu’s heritage, set against a natural coastal backdrop that enhances the overall experience.

A Massive Boost

Reports suggest that the project is backed by a substantial INR 100 crore investment under the Sustainable Agriculture and Sustainable Cultural Infrastructure (SASCI) scheme; this ambitious project is designed to elevate Tamil Nadu’s cultural tourism. This significant funding reflects state and central government support in creating an eco-friendly space that marries sustainability with cultural appreciation.

One of the most unique attractions within the park will be the Cholai Vanam or Tamil Culture Zone. This area celebrates Tamil Nadu’s rich cultural heritage with miniature models of iconic temples, traditional sculptures, folk deity installations, a “music garden,” and an open performance area. Families and tourists alike can enjoy a “toy park,” bringing heritage to life in a playful, interactive way.

Fun And Education At Viharam

The Viharam area, specially designed for families and children, will offer a range of engaging activities. With illuminated parks, a dedicated kids’ play zone, a planetarium, and colourful flower gardens, Viharam will blend entertainment and education, perfect for school groups, families, and kids of all ages eager to learn and play.

Maidanam – Grand Event Area

For larger events, the Maidanam will span 13 acres, hosting up to 25,000 people and featuring courts for volleyball, tennis, and basketball, as well as zones for ATV rides and go-karting. This area will include beachside amenities like shacks, a scenic beach walk, and elevated viewing decks for the coastal views.
