Bhavika Govil

Unless you&rsquore living under a rock (or a self-imposed internet ban), you would have heard of the upcoming movie, Thugs of Hindostan. The Bollywood mega-blockbuster is the talk of the town since its trailer dropped on September 23, and here&rsquos why.

The film has a very impressive cast with actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Jackie Shroff, among others. On top of that, the genre is out-of-the-box, and is being called an epic adventure-drama&mdashunheard of for Indian cinema. In addition, with the movie is said to be the first Indian cinema to have the sea at the backdrop of its narrative, and is already being compared to classics such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Captain Philips.

The film, which is set in 1875 in India, is based on Philip Meadows Taylor's novel Confessions of a Thug, and will be released in India during Diwali on November 8, 2018. With effects that seem larger than life, the film has got people wondering where it is based. If you&rsquore wondering where it has been shot too, here&rsquos the big reveal in Malta

Most of the film has been shot in the beautiful island country of Malta, which is increasingly coming to light for its architecture, culture and stunning waterbodies. Big films and TV shows in the past have also made Malta their backdrop, including Gladiator, TroyCaptain Philips and Game of Thrones&nbspfor example, but this is the first Indian film to be shot here.

The film has also spurred a series of events including the launch of the first ever Malta India Film Festival, which will take place in December this year.

Apart from Malta, parts of Thugs of Hindostan have also reportedly been filmed in Morocco, Thailand, and closer home, in Rajasthan.
