Tripura government has drafted a new tourism policy to be discussed in the cabinet meeting. The state has seen an increase in the tourism count and plans to use the upward trend to boost the footfall further. The policy covers various aspects of tourism, including employment, entrepreneurial incentives as well as youth encouragement. The policy will be applicable from 2019 to 2024. It will focus on a public-private partnership.

According to news reports, tourism minister Pranajit Singha Roy has mentioned that a &ldquoTourism Vision&rdquo has been initiated. A tourist circuit will be built to focus on the growth in the Northeastern region of the country. This will include various types of tourism, including but not limited to spiritual, health, film and tea. A loan of INR 5 Lakh with minimum interest will be extended to entrepreneurs under the introductory Prayatan Shohayak Prakalpo scheme by the government.

&ldquoThe government has also extended financial support of Rs 10 lakh for purchase of vehicles for cab services in various tourist destinations where youth willing to work as drivers and guides would be trained under the skill development programme in the policy,"&nbspRoy said. Annual awards will also be given to youth and self-help groups for their performance.

Tripura shows promise as a tourist destination but has been held back due to the lack of infrastructure, accommodation and connectivity. This will be addressed with the construction of a helipad at Dumboor Lake, and building of ropeways, golf courts, and amusement parks, and log huts, cafeterias at tourist spots.
