OT Staff

Do you like clicking away Do selfies flood the photo library of your phone Well, then this might not be the best news for you. Tourist spots across India will now have a no selfie zone after reports of selfie-related deaths surfaced in recent times. The Tourism Ministry has advised all state governments and union territories administration to take precaution and make sure that no more selfie-accidents happen. While it was only the states of Maharashtra and Goa under the radar before, the new law brings every state beneath a single umbrella.

State governments have been asked to handle the matter with care. They will be required to identify accident prone spots where they can and should set up a sign cautioning tourists about the dangers of clicking a selfie. Ideally, the Tourism Ministry would like these areas to be barricaded off so, the chances of accidents are as minimal as possible.

The ministry has asked the governments to raise as much awareness as possible through social media platforms. In a study concluded in 2018, India was said to have recorded the most number of deaths due to selfie hence this step is a welcome one.
