New York's 'The Shed' Is Finally Open

Check out Manhattan's latest art centre, The Shed, by Hudson Yards

After a more than a decade in the making, The Shed, worth half a billion dollars and designed by Diller Scofidio Renfro and Rockwell Group, finally opened on April 5, 2019 in Manhattan. 

The opening of The Shed is one of the most significant and symbolic additions to New York City&rsquos broad art culture. Supporting all kinds of inventive art forms - music, dance, painting, digital media, sculpture and much more, The Shed has something for everyone, all under one roof.

So, where is The Shed located

Where the High Line meets Hudson Yards.

There are eight levels in the Bloomberg building that include two large gallery spaces, a versatile theater, a rehearsal space, an artists' lab, and sky-lit events space offering amazing views of the area. One can call the whole space flexible art. 

The opening commissions include a five-concert series by artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen celebrating the unrivaled impact of African American music on contemporary culture with shows and performances by exciting emerging musicians at the McCourt area an immersive live performance installation in the level 2 gallery by composer Steve Reich and artist Gerhard Richter artwork by Trisha Donnelly on the level 4 gallery a spoken and sung performance piece by poet Anne Carson at the Griffin Theatre and a large-scale, site-specific work by artist Lawrence Weiner at the Plaza.

Mid-month, Cedric's, a new bar is set to open serving daytime and evening menus with cocktails, beer and coffee. Cedric&rsquos draws on the&nbspcreativity and inventive spirit of The Shed, offering a welcoming and casual experience for locals and visitors alike.

Another treat at The Shef is a new arts-focussed shop from McNally jackson, the beloved independent bookseller.
