If you spend your weekends reading horror books and flinching at every moving shadow, chances are you are a Stephen King fan. And if so, we have a pleasant surprise for you. Horror fiction writer Stephen King&rsquos Maine house will soon be a writers&rsquo retreat and archive. Only last week, the writer and his wife Tabitha filed a request with the Bangor City Council to rezone their 3.27 acre Victorian property into a non-profit, which was promptly accepted. This allows King&rsquos work to be archived, which one can visit only by appointment.

On October 19, 2019, King posted on Facebook that the arrangements of the retreat will be completed in a year or two and will allow up to 5 writers to take accommodation and work at his mansion. The property, on which King&rsquos children have grown up, consists of two houses. The second one will be turned into the retreat home and archive. This is the same property where King has written some of his best works.

The house complements the writer&rsquos empire built on horror, with bats and gargoyles adorned on a wrought-iron gate. The site of his residence is a popular tourist attraction where people can be found often clicking pictures. In fact, the city of Bangor itself has welcomed many visitors as the place has, in multiple accounts, been an inspiration for King&rsquos work. The city was also the basis of the development of Derry, Maine in the bestseller IT.

Stephen King is an internationally acclaimed writer, who has over the years sold millions of copies of his various works in the genre of mystery, horror and thrillers. Some of his most well-known novels include IT, The Shining, Carrie, Pet Sematary, The Running Man&nbspand&nbspRita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, many of his titles being adapted into movies and television series.
