Sikkim has been trying to bring the number of coronavirus cases down to a single-digit and to maintain such a streak, the government has imposed new restrictions for travellers from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana and Karnataka.

Any person coming to Sikkim from these states has to carry a recent RT PCR negative (to be submitted&nbspwithin 72 hours of reaching Sikkim), a Rapid Antigen Test will not do.

The decision has been taken due to the rise in mutant coronavirus cases.

A report in the media platform East Mojo states that the Health Department will send officials to Siliguri in order to check individuals coming from these states. &ldquoWhen people reach Siliguri, it remains untapped as to where they are coming from. Hence, we will establish a mechanism for scrutiny of such people entering Sikkim. The same will be discussed with the Chief Secretary today,&rdquo said the&nbspPrincipal Secretary (Health) K Sreenavasansulu.

Similar restrictions will be prevalent at Sikkim&rsquos Pakyong Airport, says the report. &ldquoWe already have a medical team at Pakyong, but more importantly, SpiceJet Airlines has been taken into confidence to impose restrictions on individuals travelling to Sikkim without the RT PCR negative certificate. Those without the negative certificate will not be allowed to board the plane,&rdquo announced K Sreenavasansulu.
