Shiny bauble from Beijing

If you think India is shining, try Beijing. Roaming around the flashy Wangfujing shopping district I despaired of finding cheap, trashy souvenirs for worthless friends back home. Then I stumbled on a row of shops crammed with garishly glittering geegaws. And I found this key-chain ornament a handsome iridescent scarab entombed in Lucite, and resting on a phosphorescent sheet&mdashso he glows in the dark as well. Price 10 Yuan. Now if only I had a beetle instead of a maruti.
