Street art has emerged as a medium to express not just creativity but also political views and ideas. Protest art has never been confined to the walls of a studio, gallery or theatre, but has always been created and performed within public squares and streets. Most of the agitations and demonstrations today would be unimaginable if it weren&rsquot for art, music, theatre and murals underpinning them.

However, the women artists in the street art sphere get little coverage. If you look around, it is mostly the male artists who are showcased. So we were happy to see what is probably the first ever women-only street art fest taking off in India.

The Ladies First Street Art Festival (LFSA), India&rsquos first women-only street art festival, was organised from March 7 to 8 in Andheri at the Marol Art Village. The second edition of the festival will cover three cities&ndashMumbai, Gurgaon and Dehradun.

The event will have female artists and illustrators painting on walls and multi-storeyed buildings, and setting up installations.

The first edition had hosted a series of parallel activities such as hip-hop cyphers, workshops, screening of street art films, talks, and art exhibitions. Check out their Insta page for the line-up this year.
