A Parotta with a Message

Sidhartha Singh

We are in the middle of a pandemic and the world is under quarantine/lockdown. Many people have been doing their bit to disseminate information about the virus how it is spread, what can be done to stop it, and more.

A restaurant in Madurai has thought up a rather novel way to create awareness about COVID-19, with parottas shaped like masks. The owner of restaurant came up with this concept after he saw people walking down the street without masks on.

The Temple City&rsquos parotta master, S. Sathish, says that they replicated the design of a surgical mask using the traditional veechu parotta. &ldquoWe folded it in a particular way and crafted the handles. All the ingredients are the same. It was a success on our very first try."

This creative and fun approach seems to have struck a chord with his customers, delivering the message and in turn, reaching wider masses. There are still many people who are not aware of the consequences of the coronavirus and we need to come up with ideas that might help the community. Madurai is quite close to Chennai vis-a-vis the number of COVID-19 cases. Measures like these might help bring down numbers, who knows
