Celebrate seven decades of cordial Indian and Finnish diplomatic relations at this extraordinary musical extravaganza. Set up the Embassy of Finland the Opera Savitri is a chamber opera in one act with music composed by Gustav Holst over a century ago in 1909. Seeking inspiration from an episode in the Mahabharata- a story featuring Savitri and Satyavan- the event features three solo singers, a wordless female chorus, and a chamber orchestra of 12 musicians. 

Opera Savitri was Holst's sixth attempt at constructing an opera. In this year's event, a beautiful blend of Finnish artists and Indian violin and sitar players will put together a refined, and evolved performance. Laura Pyrro (soprano), Jouni Kokora (bass-baritone), Matias Haakana (tenor), and Tiina Korhonen (pianist) will take to the stage to put together and elegant showcase along with their Indian counterparts for the audience. The soprana plays the role of Savitri while the tenor will act as Satyavan to create an unforgettable musical experience. 

The story witnesses the confrontation of Savitri and Death. The latter has come to claim Satyavan, Savitri's husband, which distresses her. While Satyavan assures his wife that all of this is an illusion, Death comes take her husband. Savitri, alone and in misery, welcomes Death moving the latter with her compassion who grants her one boon other than that of bringing her love back. The musical fiesta will take place on Friday, March 29 at the Baha'i House of Worship (The Lotus Temple) in Kalkaji.
