What's the World's Number One Passport

OT Staff

If you are a Kiwi passport holder, here is some incredibly good news coming your way. According to the recent 2020 global rankings by the Passport Index, the New Zealand passport has, yet again, secured top position and is the most powerful passport in the world.

The ranking by the Passport Index is based on real-time, visa restrictions, factoring in legislative changes, and entry requirements.

Earlier it shared the coveted position with Japan, but in 2020 it has solely retained the position as Japan dropped down by one rank. The interesting fact is that the Kiwi passport can grant you visa free entry to almost 120 countries.

The second spot is shared by passports of Japan, along with Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland, Luxembourg, South Korea, and Australia.

The third spot is shared by Sweden, France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, and Finland. The USA ranks 21st along with Malaysia, and India has secured the 58th position along with Algeria, Jordan, Benin, and Gabon.

This goes on to suggest that despite the ongoing pandemic New Zealand has remained quite a strong player in the global scenario and its government&rsquos response to the crisis has set the bar really high. Before the pandemic the passport was allowed visa free entry to more countries than now.
