Restaurant on Wheels Opens at Mumbais Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus

The iconic railway terminus of Mumbai, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) adds one more feather to its cap. Central Railway (a zonal railway under the Indian Railways) recently unveiled a &lsquoRestaurant on Wheels&rsquo on the premises. It will be run by a private licensee.

Located opposite platform number 18, referred to as the Heritage Gully, you cannot miss the bright yellow coach. According to a tweet from Maharashtra Tourism, &lsquoThis is the first Mumbai eatery joint to be open 24/7.&rsquo

The fine-dining restaurant named &lsquoBogie Wogie&rsquo has been created within a refurbished old railway coach on wheels. The colourful interior has been decorated with railway themed paintings, collages mentioning interesting facts about the railways, and other memorabilia, while the seating is reminiscent of old pantry cars.

The restaurant is open to railway passengers as well as general visitors. There are 10 tables which can accommodate 40 people. The eclectic menu includes Indian as well as continental dishes.

According to media reports, the Central Railway is also exploring possibilities of opening similar restaurants at Kalyan, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Neral, Igatpuri, and Lonavala.

Incidentally, the Railway Museum near Howrah Station (the terminal station for Kolkata) too had a restaurant on wheels which was subsequently shut down.
