Mumbai is all set to add another feather to its cap. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has cleared a plan to construct a 900-meter-long walkway through Malabar Hill.
The 1.5 meters wide elevated trail will serve as a canopy walk through the woods from where you can get an unhindered view of the stunning Arabian Sea. It will be fashioned similar to that of a treetop walkway and is estimated to be completed by the end of 2021.
Mumbai is adorned with numerous sea walks but there were no leisure walkways to stroll through so far. The one planned by BMC at Malabar Hill will be the first of its kind in the maximum city.
Referring to the same, Maharashtra Tourism Minister, Aditya Thackery said, "A route for walkers/joggers and tourists alike with fantastic view and surroundings, coming soon."
BMC is currently working on the intricacies to be included in the project report after which a tender will be announced. The plan is to give the work order for this project by the end of August.
&ldquoThe project has witnessed active involvement from residents of Napenasea Road from the very beginning," said Assistant Commissioner of D Ward, Prashant Gaikwad. &ldquoThe BMC officials along with the residents will supervise the projects at various stages, once the project begins."
According to BMC the installation and erection of the the walkway will commence by October. It will be similar to the treetop walk in Singapore holding the visitors 25 meters above the ground on a free-standing suspension bridge at the MacRitchie Reservoir.
The walkway will be enhanced with a steel body offering a magnificent view to joggers, walkers, and tourists. Along with the walkway, a glass base viewing deck about 5 meters wide will also be added.
