Stuck in unending stop-start traffic on your way to the airport Well, Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Mahraj International Airport (CSIA) has taken the first step into making travelling more convenient for its domestic passengers. India's second busiest airport has announced that it has done away with the stamping of boarding passes for domestic flights flying out of Terminal 2. The Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) had suggested the idea earlier in 2018 pilot tests at Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai airports taking place. This will aid in speeding up the security process with CISF personnels no longer needed for constant vigilance for stamping.
It's time to go paperless and digital with the government's latest innovation. If you're flying on either Jet Airways, Vistara, or Air India, you can authenticate your boarding passes at a pre-embarkation security checkpoint by scanning the bar-code on your smartphones at the E-gate reader. With Live Passenger Dataset playing a critical role in the system, queues and waiting time have reduced greatly during the pre-embarkation process.
This step is the first in the government's Digi Yatra initiative. The project whose goal is to make ticket booking, airport entry and boarding pass security check-in digital is all set to expand to Terminal 1 of CSIA in the coming months. Facial recognition is a vital part of this ambitious plan in promoting hassle-free travel. Under the grand scheme of things, passengers will be asked for a one-time verification while travelling for the first time using an identity proof at the departure airport. It is said that after the first time, the data will be stored in the Digi Yatra ID for future use.
It won't be long before passengers at all major airports across India go paperless and you get to experience a hassle-free journey.
