Akshai Jain

Jeepneys are quintessential Manila. They&rsquore painted in every possible colour, decorated with chrome ornaments, splashed with Disney cartoons, blare loud Tagalog rock and have names like &lsquoApple Sun&rsquo, &lsquoPlayboy&rsquo and &lsquoNazareth&rsquo. And they are by far the most conspicuous mode of transport in Manila.

&nbspThe original Jeepneys were Willys jeeps left behind by the Americans at the end of WWII which were stripped down to accommodate more passengers and used as public transport. Now they and their miniatures are manufactured in the Philippines. This miniature Jeepney is available in every souvenir shop for 200 Peso.
