Fashion changes with time and the times are often denoted by their fashion the &rsquo90s for its Juicy Couture, the &rsquo80s for its over-sized blazers and the &rsquo70s for its hippie garb. And now fashion is remembering the times.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City recently announced the theme for net year&rsquos Met Gala and 150th anniversary celebrations, &ldquoAbout Time Fashion and Duration.&rdquo The gala is scheduled of the 4th of May, 2020, and will be co-chaired by Nicolas Ghesqui&egravere, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, and Anna Wintour.

The theme was influenced by the French philosopher Henri Bergson's concept of "la dur&eacutee" &mdash time that flows, accumulates, and is indivisible. The accompanying exhibition, featuring about 160 pieces, will delve into the relation between fashion and time and how they go together. This will be through the writings of author Virginal Woolf, who will serve as the "ghost narrator."

&ldquoFashion is indelibly connected to time,&rdquo said Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute. &ldquoIt not only reflects and represents the spirit of the times, but it also changes and develops with the times, serving as an especially sensitive and accurate timepiece.&rdquo

The event will trace the history of fashion through a disruptive timeline from 1870 to present day. The concept of fashion in time will be studied through flash-backs and fast-forwards and will show how it is both cyclical and linear, according to Max Hollein, director of the Met.

&ldquoIt&rsquos a reimagining of fashion history that&rsquos fragmented, discontinuous, and heterogeneous,&rdquo said Bolton.
