A number of Indians might cancel their international travel plans as a result of the discovery of a new variant of COVID-19 in a few countries, and consequent flight bans in places like Dubai, France, and Singapore, according to a survey.

Conducted by online platform LocalCircles, the survey covered 15,000 responses from over 10,000 people across 240 cities in India in order to understand the mutated variant&rsquos impact on international travel plans for the next three months. It also suggested that 42% of respondents didn&rsquot have plans for domestic travel at all.

The platform observed an increase in citizens&rsquo posts suggesting that many may hold back on their travel plans to any international countries due to the anxiety surrounding the new strain, and multiple places&rsquo flight-bans in response to the same.

"Local Circle received 7,820 responses, of which as many as 71 per cent consumers said that they have no plans to undertake international travel in the next 3 months, while 2 per cent said they have bookings and will likely travel, and another 2&nbspper cent saying that have bookings but may cancel based on COVID situation," it said.

"The aggregate feedback of consumers suggests that the new virus strain that was recently detected in the UK and related flight bans, the majority planning international travel in the next three months are likely to hold back," the survey also revealed.

In its entirety, the mutated variant, and ensuing flight bans, have caused 66% Indians to cancel their international travel plans for the next three months.
