Italy Announces New Hiking Trail

A new hiking trail, Path of Parks, will connect Italys national parks

The Italian Alpine Club (CAI) and the Ministry of Environment in Italy have announced the opening of a new hiking trail that will connect the national parks all across the country. This trail is very similar to the one in Chile, which is a 1,700 mile long trail called the Route of Parks. With the country slowly easing out travel restrictions, setting up this hiking trail is one of its first agendas. The route will be known as the Path of Parks.

Italy is home to 25 national parks, some of which are biosphere reserves and UNESCO World Heritage sites. While individual hiking trails existed in all these parks previously, this is the first time there has been talks of a common trail running from the Dolomites right down to Sicily. This path will roughly be made along the lines of the existing Italy Path or the Sentiero Italia which runs across 400 sections all over the country. However, it covers only 18 of the 25 national parks. The new route shall be tailored especially to ensure that no national parks are left behind.

All those hiking through this path will be eligible for a &ldquopassport&rdquo of sorts that will help them track their progress. There will be visitor centers at each park from where one will be able to get their stamp for the park.

There has been no official date for the opening of this new hiking route but it can be estimated that the path will be ready by 2033.
