There is something brewing at Delhi airport and we are most excited for it. Indira Gandhi International Airport has started a three-month test run on a facial recognition system from 6 September. Running on Terminal 3 (the international terminal) this new facial biometric system would definitely make things easier. The trial run is in collaboration with Vistara and will be available at each security checkpoint in the terminal. While security personnel will still be available and physically check each person&rsquos id and tickets upon entry, the new biometric system will match facial details. Furthermore, this system will be installed at each point including entry, security checkpoints, gates and before boarding the flight. With all checkpoints being automated, this could dramatically reduce the time taken for security and boarding. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) is running these trials with Vision Box. The Portuguese software company is providing technical support and software. Once the passenger has boarded their flight and it departs, the company ensures that they will delete all the data they have collected and will not store any information, maintaining privacy completely. The facial recognition software is running smoothly in Bengaluru airport. While airports in Hyderabad and Mumbai have successfully tested this technology. Hopefully, it passes in Delhi too. The traffic would surely loosen, and the time spent inside the airport, stuck in lines, would go down.
