India&rsquos pretty-in-pink city, Jaipur will soon be host to the first-ever Ceramics Triennale, Breaking Ground to be held in India. A collaboration between Jawahar Kala Kendra and the Contemporary Clay Foundation, Breaking Ground is an event to showcase the Indian & international works, have conversations regarding the craft and to help view ceramics as an art form with potential for versatility.

This is an artist-led initiative, grown under the helm of six ceramic artists including Anjani Khanna, Madhvi Subrahmanian, Neha Kudchadkar, Reyaz Badaruddin, Sharbani Das Gupta, and Vineet Kacker.

There will be projects by 35 Indian and 12 International artists, film screenings and workshops held between August 31-November 18, 2018. A few of the Indian artists include Thukral & Tagra, Bitha Perciyal, Adil Write, while the International artists include Ester Beck from Israel, Jae Joon from Korea and Kate Malone (co-presenter of BBC&rsquos Great Pottery Throwdown), among others.

As part of its symposium, there will be conversations by twelve speakers on recent developments in the ceramic space&mdashon its relationship with technology, design and socio-politics and where the craft is headed. The event isn't limited to experts and artists from the field, however. One can sign up for the masterclasses held by International and Indian ceramic artists, where different styles of ceramic-making such the Japanese Haiyu Slipware form can be learnt.

The ultimate aim is to 'break ground' in the field of ceramics and understand its vast possibilities. Anjani Khanna, Director, Contemporary Clay Foundation and a member of the Curatorial Team says, &ldquoWe seek to broaden the horizon of the medium of clay. The Ceramics Triennale aims to showcase alternative, experimental and experiential uses of ceramics within and beyond the boundaries of the traditional gallery.&rdquo
