Goa's Shigmo Spring Festival Has Been Cancelled

OT Staff

A few months back, Goa didn&rsquot have any COVID-19 cases, but as people flocked to the state for their holidays, cases rose rapidly. As a result, the annual Shigmo Spring Festival which was scheduled in the first week of April, stands cancelled.

Among the biggest festivals celebrated in Goa, Shigmotsav is primarily a Hindu festival, and honours the return of warriors. Tradition says that these brave ones had gone to war during Dussehra, fighting invaders, and come home during spring.

The fest is full of music, dance, and colourful floats in a parade.

Float parades depict Goan life, as well as mythological stories. Traditional folk dances such as Ghode Modni and Fugdi are performed on the streets.&nbspAnd of course, there's amazing food - one can gorge on Goan delicacies at street food stalls.
