Which is your favourite hotel and why
It is a long list for sure, but right at the top is Casa de Campo Resort and Villas, Dominican Republic (from approx. $800 casadecampo.com.do). This is a world-class place to stay in, considering it is spread over 7,000 acres.
What makes Casa de Campo special
Its size makes several facilities and conveniences possible. The resort has three private beaches, lush gardens, a shooting course, and an equestrian centre where the horses are better than what you are used to seeing at a dude ranch. They are well-trained, clean and healthy. The marina is huge and don&rsquot even get me started on the golf course. I think it is the best golf resort
I have been to. The three Pete Dye golf courses include Teeth of the Dog, which is the best course in the Caribbean. Its rooms are just so well-appointed with thoughtful details and there are personal golf carts too. There are more than 20 restaurants and 15 bars at the resort that leave you spoilt for choice.
What about the food
The choice is truly flabbergasting. Spanish tapas, Italian comfort food, succulent sushi, Mediterranean tagines, kebabs and every cuisine under the sun. My favourite is the La Caña Bar & Restaurant that takes its name from the sugar cane crops that surround the town of La Romana. Sugar cane is the backbone of the local economy. The restaurant uses local ingredients to rustle up finger-licking French-inspired fare. I cannot have enough of the pappardelle aglio e olio with shrimp and red pepper.
Why would you recommend this hotel
There is so much peace here. When you are looking to work in silence without a care in the world, or even celebrating a getaway, this is where you should head, without a doubt.
