Jewellery is often more than just an addition to your everyday style for many, each statement piece comes with its material memory. There is a sublime beauty that shines through each accessory that adorns us. Something as simple as a bracelet can turn into a beacon of hope, which is exactly what ace designer Anita Dongre hopes to achieve with a minimal bracelet.
Designed by Dongre for CITTA, a non-profit organisation, this dainty bracelet is part of a larger initiative called &lsquoPromise of Hope&rsquo that will support the dreams of young girls studying at the Rajkumari Ratnavati Girls School in Jaisalmer, India. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this bracelet will go to CITTA in their aid to educate and empower these young women.
The 400 girls who study at this unique school, designed by internationally renowned architect Diana Kellogg in the sandy landscape of Jaisalmer, are children of weavers, embroiders, and nomads from the Thar region of Rajasthan and come from a place which, for long, only believed in educating boys and granting them an agency over their lives. Reclaiming their place in this world through education, these girls symbolise our collective future. To this end, the school aims to provide education and training in traditional skill sets such as artistry, weaving, and embroidery for women. The royal family of Jaisalmer has joined the directorship and Manvendra Singh Shekhawat donated the land for the school. The &lsquoPromise Of Hope&rsquo is not just a piece of jewellery but a promise to equip young women with the education to create their best lives.
Anita Dongre, who works extensively with artisans and weavers across India, says, &ldquoThe women of the Thar desert are ingenious and strong, finding joy in the face of some of the hardest living conditions. I partnered with CITTA because we share a strong belief that girls everywhere should be encouraged to have limitless imagination, passion, and ambition. In coming together to support the Rajkumari Ratnavati School, we take one more step towards an equitable world, one in which women accept hope as default and work towards their dreams.&rdquo
Modern, versatile and unique, this bracelet was launched at an event at the Anita Dongre Flagship store in New York and is on sale through the Anita Dongre website and stores around the world.
