With things returning to normal and the world learning to live with the coronavirus, Airbnb, in a report, revealed that more families are choosing it for short vacations, with numbers surpassing the pre-pandemic days. The vacation rental company noted that the percentage of families in its homes increased by over 60% in 2022.
The data is significant as it shows a spike in the number of groups, not just individuals, choosing Airbnb despite the pandemic and a comparative shift that shows the percentage soaring even more than it did in 2019, right before the pandemic.
While for India specifically, family travel on Airbnb shot up by over 90% in 2022. The top 10 destinations where Indian families travelled the most in 2022 include Goa, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Dehradun, Jaipur, Raigarh, Ernakulam, Delhi, and Nainital. And for international getaways, Indians mostly travelled to London, Toronto and Dubai.
The Airbnb data also revealed that there had been more than 15 million check-ins in nearly 90,000 destinations worldwide in 2022.
&ldquoFamilies spend more on domestic and international travel and are more willing to support local communities and small businesses. We are glad to see the multiplier effect Airbnb delivers on the local communities as it creates meaningful earning opportunities for those considering hosting on the platform,&rdquo said Amanpreet Bajaj, Airbnb&rsquos General Manager for India, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
