Abu Dhabi may be a desert-turned cosmopolitan city, but its police believe in going back to the origins. Have you heard Camels are the newest recruits of the Abu Dhabi Police force. Called the Hajana, or the camel patrol, the animals will be part of the special patrols unit.

Called the &lsquoship of the desert&rsquo, camels are deeply rooted in the Bedouin way of life in the UAE and these days, are an essential part of the country&rsquos tourism sector, and used for camel races and beauty pageants (no kidding). With their new &lsquostatus upgrade&rsquo, the police is trying to increase local pride in the Emirati culture, as per reports.

&ldquoWe continue to strive in making Abu Dhabi safe, and continue to employ all possible means, to raise the level of security in the emirate. Abu Dhabi police have been trained in accordance with the standard of best practices, to carry out their civic duties of preventing crimes and communicating with the public,&rdquo said, Abu Dhabi police chief, Mohammed Khalfan al-Romaithi, in a statement, as per reports.

This isn&rsquot the first time in the world that animals are part of the police industry. Horses and dogs are perhaps the most common, but did you know that in some parts of the world, there are police cats and even dolphins that are trained to take down criminals&mdashor at least sniff out some illegal activity Add some camels to the list, and you can't help but go 'awww'.
