China's Airline Crew told to Wear Diapers due to High Risk

As a preventive measure, China has advised cabin crew to wear diapers for high risk Covid flights

In a new 38 page guideline,&nbspChina&rsquos aviation regulator has recommended that cabin crew on charter flights flying to high risk COVID-19 destinations should wear disposable diapers in order to reduce the risk of infection.

The advice was given in lieu of avoiding the use of washrooms, and practicing minimal contact to reduce possible chances of transmission.

The order administered by the civil aviation administration applies to all charter flights to and from countries where the infection ratio exceeds 500 in every one million people.

The advice on diaper is sectioned under the guideline on personal protective equipment which also recommends cabin crew to use the following in order to minimise the risk of infection

  • Medical protective masks

  • Double-layer disposable medical rubber gloves

  • Goggles

  • Disposable caps

  • Disposable protective clothing

  • Disposable shoe covers

The flights are also instructed to divide the cabin into a clean area, a buffer zone, passenger sitting area and quarantine area, all of which should be separated by disposable curtains. The CAAC also mandates that the last three rows should be designated as an emergency quarantine area.

China&rsquos aviation sector was the first to take the hit with the onset of COVID-19, having battled the outbreak in Wuhan. Gradually, China's aviation sector has started recovering, at least on the domestic front, and is trying to bridge the gap of losses while Europe and the US still struggle to bring the pandemic under control.

It is still debatable whether flying is 100 percent safe with the right amount of precautions.  Some documented case show that transmission has occurred regardless of any safety protocols.

Meanwhile, airlines are constantly reassuring passengers about hospital-grade air filters as the aviation sector tries its best to make air travel a safe reality again.
