In a landmark achievement, India&rsquos second moon mission, Chandrayaan-2 has captured images of the moon from lunar orbit. The picture was taken from a distance of 2,650 km. Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO) tweeted the photos on August 22, 2019. The image highlights two significant craters, the Apollo crater and the Mare Orientale Basin. According to a statement by ISRO, Chandrayaan-2 has successfully completed Lunar Orbit Insertion Maneuver, bringing it closer to the moon. Few weeks ago Chandrayaan 2 has sent images of the Earth as viewed from space. Chandrayaan - 2 consists of an orbiter, a rover (Pragyan) and a lander (Vikram). On September 7, the lander Vikram, named after Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, is expected to separate from the spacecraft and land on the surface of the moon. If this mission is successful, India will become the fourth country to land on the lunar surface after US, Russia and China. On the D-Day the lander will begin its descent and land near the south pole of the moon, making India the first country to execute a 'soft landing' near the lunar south pole.
