While tourists usually entered Bhutan through the town of Phuentsholing, in a recent development, five more border crossings have opened.
In a major move to boost tourism in the country and for a balanced tourism development in the province, the National Assembly of Bhutan will now allow five border towns to allow entry and exit for regional tourists. The decision was passed after a voting by the members of the Assembly. You can now enter the serene country through the towns of Samdrup Jongkhar, Gelephu, Samtse, Nanglam and Panbang.
The council also proposed the idea of starting a flight service between Guwahati to Yongphula and Bumthang to Gelephu to ease transportation hassles.
