Next time you are at Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna railway station in Bengaluru do budget some extra time in your itinerary. Because you have to see the freshwater movable tunnel aquarium built here, a first for any railway station in India.
Formerly known as Bengaluru City Station, it is located across the Kempegowda bus station.
Developed as a collaborative venture between the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC) and HNi Aquatic Kingdom, it consists of a 12 feet long life-size aquatic gallery.
It is based on the Amazon River concept, according to the developers.
The aquarium has planted marine and tropical sections with a variety of flora and fauna. Some of the interesting acquisitions include alligator gar ranging from two to three feet, sting rays, and eels up to three-and-a-half feet, sharks, lobsters, snails and shrimps. Natural rocks, driftwood, artificial coral rocks enhance the beauty of the aquarium.
There is a 3-D selfie area where visitors can take a picture with a fish apparently popping out of the aquarium.
Passengers will have to pay an entrance charge of Rs 25 per head.
Owing to the pandemic, up to 25 visitors will be allowed inside the aquarium at a time.
The Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited is a nodal agency entrusted with the task of fast tracking the redevelopment of railway stations and unlocking the commercial value of the space. According to media reports, the IRSDC has been entrusted with the mandate to undertake facility management at five railway stations -- KSR Bengaluru, Pune, Anand Vihar, Chandigarh and Secunderabad.
