Taj Hotel and Convention Centre Wah Taj

This property, within kissing distance of the Taj Mahal, is so much more than a convention hotel

OT Staff

The Taj Hotel & Convention Centre, Agra&mdashwhich used to be the Radisson in an earlier avatar before an entirely new, and very snazzy, wing was added&mdashis the perfect hotel whether you are looking for a weekend getaway, planning a big fat Indian wedding, looking at hosting a corporate event or just in dire need of a quick workation. Spread over an impressive 4.5 acres, it&rsquos walking distance from the Taj Mahal (although they have their own Taj too&mdashmore on that later). The hotel also houses a spa, expansive kids&rsquo play area and a state-of-the-art fitness centre. As you amble down the corridors, you can pause to brush up your knowledge of Mughal history at numerous displays. The rooftop infinity pool is the highlight of the property.

The Rooms
The property has 239 modern rooms including 12 lavish suites and a presidential suite which opens out onto its own private lawn. The rooms are spacious, elegant and contemporary. While some rooms frame views of the Taj Mahal, others look out on to the town of Agra or provide refreshing views of one of the pools. Ergonomically designed desks, smart lighting, stylish ottomans and armchairs, luxurious bathrooms and ample space make the rooms and suites ideal for both business and leisure travelers. Large flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi will ensure that you&rsquore always connected with the world.

The Food

Dining is definitely the strong suit of this hotel and reflects an increasing attention to F&ampB across the entire Taj Group over the last few years. There are multiple dining options at the property Palato, the all-day diner, Daawat-e-Nawaab, the Indian speciality restaurant which is extremely popular with the locals as well and two lounges&mdashLiquid Lounge, the funky sports bar, and Tea Lounge. But the pi&egravece de r&eacutesistance is Infini - The Sky Lounge, a rooftop bar with stunning views of the Taj Mahal. Guests can enjoy a swim in the infinity pool and then order a barbecue platter and drink.

The Convention Part
This luxury hotel is an ideal destination for large conferences and destination weddings, offering 40,000 sq ft of indoor and outdoor banqueting space including a 14,000 sq ft pillarless hall which is one of the largest in North India.

Activities
There&rsquos enough in the hotel itself to keep you occupied, from a puppet show to pottery making, not to mention a stylish boutique. But the highlight is the mini Taj model they have on the premises. Not only is it exquisite, one of their staff does a fantastic &lsquoHistory of the Taj&rsquo show with it, replete with funky light effects and melodious live singing. Talk about in-house talent. It is truly something unique that no other hotel in Agra boasts.

When you feel like venturing out, don&rsquot miss a trip to Sadar Bazar for some old-style shopping and oodles of atmosphere.
