Ever had the feeling that Goa is turning into a giant crowded mall Head out to the newly minted Azaya Beach Resort if you just answered an emphatic yes. Located in the south on a quiet beach, far from the madding crowds of the north, Azaya has a relaxed but decidedly upscale vibe with uninterrupted soul-stirring sea views and powder-soft white sands right up to its doorstep.
Though the resort will be fully operational by October, it is partially open and you can go ahead and book rooms now. When it is ready, you will be able to choose from 114 spacious rooms, each with its own unique character, so you will have a tough time picking one. Some have their own gardens and private plunge pools, some have a bathtub out on the terrace, perfect for a night-time soak under the stars. The terraces are also decked out with cosy lounge chairs where you can sit and peruse a book.
The individually designed rooms have a contemporary, hip style complete with floor-to-ceiling windows, open closets and colour themes that don&rsquot jar.
If you are in the mood for partying, you will be happy to know that they haven&rsquot skimped on the not-so-mini bar either. You have 20 glasses and 750ml bottles instead of the usual miniature ones.
Welcome the sunset at the New York-style Lynx Bar and Lounge which serves cocktails paired with the chef&rsquos own take on tapas. The all-day eatery La Concha serves up world cuisine from local curries to amazing lamb ragu (the sauce is outstanding, simmered slowly over a couple of days to develop the flavours) and an array of breads baked in-house (including our personal favourite, a textured sourdough).
Just opened is the poolside Cerulean for refreshments and an impressive book-lined library lounge that also overlooks the pool. Their carte du jour is crafted using farm-fresh ingredients and features salads, artisanal burgers and sandwiches. The seasonal eatery Blue Iris is their quintessentially Goa beachfront restaurant with private cabana seating, serving the best of local produce. Guests who prefer gentle pampering can spend a day at the Prana Spa or sit poolside sipping wine.
It is a perfect getaway for families, honeymooners and your squad, with a range of activities&mdashfrom parasailing and water-skiing to escorted tours to nearby spice plantations&mdashto ensure a troop of happy campers whatever their age.
So grab a bucket, spade and sunglasses, and head out to Azaya. This is your own slice of paradise on one of Goa&rsquos most peaceful stretches of beach.
