Exploring Jaipur And Jaisalmer One Train Station At A Time

The train ride across Jaipur and Jaisalmer brought to our attention many picture perfect aspects of these two cities

Puneet K. Paliwal

Picture this nothing but vast desert on both sides, a train chugs along, releasing a cloud of sand on its way. No, this was not a sneak-peek of an Indiana Jones's flick but what it must have looked from above as our train, IRCTC Desert Circuit Special, made its way to Jaisalmer from Delhi. At the crack of dawn we reached Jaisalmer and spent the day exploring the gems that the town had to offer us visitors. From Jaisalmer station we could clearly see the Jaisalmer Fort, towering above the rest of the town. What a welcome that was Post a visit to the fort, we had to go see Patwon ki Haveli,Gadisar Lake, followed by a lovely evening at Sam Desert. Because, why not

The next destination, Jaipur, though not new to us, was a delight nonetheless. The train ride from Jaisalmer to Jaipur was not spectacular as such but the sheer knowledge of what's in store for us, once we reach the city, that knowledge made the train ride so special. No matter how many times one visits Jaipur, the city never fails to amaze. Amber Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar and dinner at Chokhi Dhani, these were a part of our Jaipur visit. We did all things touristy but one thing was special&mdashriding the IRCTC Desert Circuit Special to these vibrant cities.
