Thai Troubles

Decades of irresponsible tourism has caused immense damage to marine life at one of the world's most popular beaches, Maya Bay

OurTeam

Your relaxing Thai holiday may have to be put on hold this holiday season. The Thai paradise of Maya Bay has temporarily closed its gates to tourists to save its sea. Starting June 1, 2018, Maya Bay will be shut till September 30 of this year for ecological recovery. Thanks to Leonardo DiCaprios 2000 film The Beach, Maya Bay gained popularity because of its serene and calm surroundings. Now bustling with people, it has become more like an urban cityscape lately. When it reopens, the number of incoming boats and tourists will be monitored and their numbers will be capped. At the moment, though, Maya Bay seems to be in dire need of a vacation for its restoration and rejuvenation, Thai style.
